Altered Books

Altered Books

As part of our class curriculum, we were challenged to create a set of altered book. An altered book is simply a manuscript or book that has been torn, painted, embellished or altered in a way that alters the perception and meaning of the book. Often, altered books are manipulated with tools like stamps, scissors, pens, coloring pencils and etc. The objective is to create an altered book that is creative, daring, and exploratory in reinterpreting and defining the text. Ultimately, creating an altered book is meant to be an experiential and fun process.

As the following examples will reveal, each student was assigned with the task creating an altered book, along with providing a summary and quote on the book. The following pieces showcase three example pages from each student’s altered book.
