Author’s Description
As recipient of the Nebula Award for best Novel, the Yiddish Policemen’s Union is a novel authored by Michael Chabon. The book is a detective story that takes place in an alternate reality. In this world, the millions of displaced Jews from World War II have migrated to the United States and have settled in the Alaskan wilderness. While inhabiting the Alaskan wilderness, these new inhabitants experience challenges and obstacles that test their strength and persistence.
In my altered book, I used rough sketches to depict the events, emotions and actions that happened on the page, allowing the text to be communicated in a different way. I also highlighted words that were of significance to me. Words, that perhaps, conjured thoughts of my past when living in Canada in climates similar to Alaska. On other pages, I used a highlighter to cluster paragraphs into different shapes and forms.
